Arnolds Garner Seniors of the Year award Fairburn residents Lawrence and Frankie Arnold (left) display a trophy naming them Fulton County 2003 Seniors of the Year during Volunteer Appreciation Day ceremonies recently at the H. J. C. Bowden Senior Multipurpose Facility in East Point. Extending congratulations are Fulton County Commission Vice Chairman William "Bill" Edwards, who presented the award, and Fulton County Office of Aging Director Melinda Davis. The trophy, entitled "Braving the Storm," is a crystal sculpture of a wind-swept, weathered tree symbolizing the ability to persevere against adversity. Honored for outstanding service to seniors, the Arnolds are active members of the Meals on Wheels home delivery program (he delivers one to two 18-meal routes Mondays through Fridays; she delivers on Fridays), visit retirement homes regularly, and volunteer at the Fairburn Neighborhood Senior Center. Georgia's Foster Parents of the Year in 2001, they were cited for the friendship and camaraderie they bring to meal recipients. Mrs. Arnold is also a member of the Fairburn City Council.
