Fayette reaps ARC moneyBy JOHN
THOMPSON
The taps of grant money from the Atlanta Regional Commission flowed into Fayette County this week. The county is slated to receive just over $1.8 million for projects in Fayetteville and Peachtree City. The two Fayette municipalities are part of 25 communities received study grants through the Atlanta Regional Commission's Livable Centers Initiative. The grants focus on improving the quality of life in communities in the Atlanta region. Fayetteville was awarded $1.8 million to build pedestrian features at the Fayetteville Village Green, with construction expected to start in 2005. Peachtree City received $400,000 to improve pedestrian features near the Ga. Highway 54 and 74 intersection, including a pedestrian walkway underneath Hwy.54. Construction is expected to start in 2004. Both grants require a 20 match from the cities.
