Hospital needs more room to expand services

Space is getting tight as Fayette Community Hospital is exceeding growth expectations, according to hospital CEO Darrell Cutts.

In fact, some of the hospital's administrative offices are moving out of the main building to make room for a group of cardiologists, Cutts told Fayetteville's planning and zoning commission last week at a workshop meeting.

At its May 27 meeting, the commission will consider approval of a plan to annex over 27 acres to the east of the hospital campus and rezone the property to MO for medical office use.

The hospital opened six years ago.

"We were told we'd never have 35 in patients, but when I left today we had 75," Cutts said.

Now, the hospital is looking at adding other services such as a cath lab and radiation therapy so local residents don't have to leave the county for those services, Cutts added.

The expansion includes a copious amount of parking, which Cutts noted has been a problem at times.

The Fayette County Commission has voted not to oppose the annexation but the county will present some development recommendations for the area.
