Starr's Mill High School paper wins first place

Starr's Mill High School's student newspaper, The Prowler, recently won first place at the annual Georgia Scholastic Press Association Awards.

The paper's staff tied with two others to win the general excellence award, which was presented during a ceremony at the Henry W. Grady School of Journalism at the University of Georgia.

The staff also took home its first-ever award for best editorial page.

Staffers winning individual honors were editor in chief-elect Thomas Barger and current editor in chief Arianne Beall, who tied for third place for best news story. Design editor Ryan Cornell also won third place for best advertising design.

In its five years of existence, The Prowler has received three first place and two second place awards at the annual UGA competition. The paper has also won back-to-back Gold Medals from Columbia University's Scholastic Press Association competition for 2001 and 2002.

The faculty advisor is Debbie Smelley.
