Perdue declares state of emergency in Meriwether Count

Governor Sonny Perdue today issued an Executive Order declaring a State of Emergency in Meriwether County. The county was impacted by extensive flooding following severe weather last week.

"Reports from local emergency officials confirmed that significant damage had also been sustained in Meriwether County, which is adjacent to Harris and Troup counties. I extend my concerns for Meriwether County residents, their families, their homes and their businesses. I continue to send thoughts and prayers to all Georgians impacted by last week's severe weather," said Perdue.

Last week, Governor Perdue toured nearby Troup County and met onsite with local officials and representatives from the Georgia Emergency Management Agency and the Georgia Department of Transportation.

"I have declared a state of emergency and authorized GEMA to activate Georgia's Emergency Operations Plan in Meriwether County. My office will work closely with GEMA to ensure that we provide assistance to our fellow Georgians during their time of need."

GEMA is the lead state agency for coordination of emergency and disaster response activities. For additional emergency information and updates, contact GEMA at 1-800-TRY-GEMA (1-800-879-4362).
