New PTC manager to get formal job offer Thursday

The official appointment of a new city manager is the only significant item of business scheduled for Thursday's Peachtree City Council meeting.

Bernard J. McMullen is expected to get a unanimous endorsement for the city's top managerial post, having been given a 4-0 vote of confidence at the May 1 meeting. That night, the four councilmen with Mayor Steve Brown absent gave city staff the OK to begin negotiating terms with McMullen.

Councilmen say there were no other serious candidates.

McMullen has been director of the General Services Department of Fulton County for several years, a job that saw him manage a budget of more than $30 million and a staff of nearly 400, responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of 600 Fulton County buildings and 2,000 vehicles.

Last week, McMullen said his focus will be on preserving the asthetics of the city while addressing the issues sure to arise as the community reaches buildout.

He and his wife have lived in Peachtree City for 11 years, and an adult son also calls the city home.

In other business Thursday, the council will consider an appointment to fill a vacancy on the Library Board, continue a hearing on an application for alcoholic beverages license from Mike & C's Family Sports Grill, and consider bids for the purchase of a new asphalt paver and new generators for Stations 83 and 84.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. Thursday in council chambers at City Hall.
