Driver, 32, charged with murder in road rage case By JOHN MUNFORD
A Sharpsburg man now faces murder charges after police say his actions caused a Fayetteville woman to lose control of her car, ultimately causing her death early Saturday evening. Paul Samuel Garner Jr., 32, of Sharpsburg pulled in front of Kera Koon's Chevy Blazer and stepped on the brakes twice, said Sgt. Belinda McCastle. After that, Koon lost control of her vehicle as it rolled over several times. McCastle said. The vehicle came to rest on Ga. Highway 54 West between Huiet Road and Tyrone Road. Koon died from injuries she received in the wreck, and a passenger in her car, Michael Thomas, 22, was injured but was expected to survive, McCastle added. Garner told detectives that Koon's vehicle was erratically weaving in and out of traffic before the incident, McCastle said. Garner is charged with felony murder, aggravated assault and leaving the scene of an accident, all of which are felony counts. Because of the murder charge, the bond must be set by a Superior Court judge. A passenger in Garner's blue Ford F-250 truck, Michael Moody Jr., 21, is also charged with obstruction of a police officer and leaving the scene of an accident (party to a crime). As typical with any serious motor vehicle crash, blood samples have been taken from both drivers and will be analyzed to determine if either driver was intoxicated at the time of the crash.
