Variance to cut signage OK'd for Allen Vigil Ford By JOHN
MUNFORD Allan Vigil Ford has been granted a variance to Fayetteville's sign ordinance after proposing to eliminate a total of four ground signs and reduce the size of the signs on walls to its three main buildings. The changes proposed by the company would reduce the total square feet of signage by almost 30 percent, according to city documents. The company also plans to install landscaping around the two ground signs that it will replace: the main Ford logo and a sign for the pre-owned portion of the dealership. The dealership, formerly Carolyn Ford, currently has seven wall signs which were allowed by the city after its new sign ordinance was adopted in 1991 and updated in 1998 with the Main Street Historic District regulations. Representatives for the company told the City Council last week that they hope to have the new signs erected as soon as possible. The motion to grant the variance was approved 4-0.
