Oak Grove students carry on school tradition A theatrical tradition at Oak Grove Elementary continues with the production of "Charlotte's Web." Throughout the month of May, all third graders are performing the play, adapted from the book written by E.B. White, in front of an audience of parents and other classes at the school. Every student has a part in the production, which is complete with costumes, props, and set and light designs created by parent volunteers. These spring productions have become a third-grade tradition at the school, according to third-grade teacher Kara Thompson who organizes the event each year. She says that in addition to reading popular books, memorizing scripts and bringing them to life on a stage, students learn other important skills that will help them throughout life. "The children get very excited and enjoy this memorable experience. Public speaking skills, using expression, speaking loudly and clearly and addressing an audience, as well as using life skills such as perseverance and cooperation, are important parts of the learning process for the children," explained Thompson. Previous performances have included "The Wizard of Oz," "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," "Doctor Doolittle" and "Alice in Wonderland."
