Powell elected president of municipal attorneys' group Coweta County Attorney Mitch Powell became president of the County Attorneys' Section of the Association County Commissioners of Georgia at its annual meeting April 12-15 in Jekyll Island. Powell is a partner in the Newnan law firm of Glover and Davis and has served as attorney for Coweta County since January of 1988. As president, Powell is an ex officio member of the Board of Managers of the Association County Commissioners of Georgia. The board of managers directs and manages the overall affairs of the organization. He will also assist in coordinating the County Attorneys Section's activities with the overall programs of ACCG, will serve as the parliamentarian for the Association's Fall Legislative Conference, and will be called upon to provide guidance to the staff of the Association as needed. Powell also serves on a committee responsible for planning and presenting the program for the 50th Institute for City and County Attorneys sponsored jointly by the attorneys' sections of the Association County Commissioners of Georgia, the Georgia Municipal Association, the Local Government Section of the State Bar of Georgia, and the Institute of Continuing Legal Education in Georgia. Established in 1914 with 19 charter members, ACCG is the consensus building, training, service and legislative advocacy organization of all Georgia's 159 county governments. ACCG brings counties statewide together on matters of public policy that have special impact on local governments.
