The city of Senoia reluctantly agreed to pay their liability insurance Monday night.

The council was taken aback two weeks ago when they learned the premium was increasing from $30,000 to $43,000.

City clerk Debbie Hogan said she had talked to the municipal agency in charge of handling the insurance plan to see if increasing the deductibles would lower the premium.

"It would only save us about $2,693," she said.

Hogan did say the city could pay half the premium by the end of the month, and the other half would not be do until the end of November.

City Councilman Bill Wood made a motion to approve the premium as presented, and Councilman Robert Belisle also suggested the city start investigating private insurance options for next year.

"It's probably too early to start, because people won't guarantee prices this far out. You might want to start around December," said city attorney Drew Whalen.

The council agreed and passed the motion unanimously.
