Students place in national math competition

The third-grade enrichment students at Kedron Elementary have proven that they exhibit some of the best math skills in the nation by placing second in both the national and regional MathFax competition, honors division.

The students competed against 41 schools in the nation and 10 regionally.

In addition to team honors, students also received individual awards. Karen Anderson placed second in the regional competition and fourth nationally. Brady Brettin received a fourth place ranking in the region and sixth in the nation. Sara Adams and Elizabeth Taylor tied for fifth place at the region level and eighth in the nation.

There were 151 students in the regional competition and 714 at the national level.

MathFax is a math competition for grades three through high school. Students can elect to participate in the regular or honors division. The competition consists of four timed tests taken throughout the year. Each test has 25 word problems.
