Air National Guard Airman 1st Class David L. Blissett III has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.

In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force. He is the son of Leeanne Grissom of Fayetteville, Ga., and David Blissett II of Rincon, Ga. Blissett is a 2002 graduate of Effingham County High School, Springfield, Ga.

Marine Corps Pfc. Samuel S. Beutjer, son of Tom E. Beutjer of Peachtree City, recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. and was promoted to his current rank. Beutjer is a 2002 graduate of Starr's Mill High School.

Marine Corps Pfc. Scott C. Olson, son of Ida M. and Dale C. Olson of Peachtree City, is currently deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom while assigned to the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, based in Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Elements of Olson's unit recently joined coalition forces in the vicinity of Mosul, Iraq to promote stability in the region and eliminate any pockets of Iraqi resistance.

Olson is a 2001 graduate of McIntosh High School.

Marine Corps Pfc Patrick J. O'Neill, son of Kathleen C. and Robert F. O'Neill of Peachtree City, recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. and was promoted to his current rank. O'Neill is a 2001 graduate of McIntosh High School.

Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Joshua A. Toles, son of Sheila D. Cunningham of Antioch, Tenn. and Alvin Toles of Fayetteville, Ga., is currently deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom while assigned to the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, based in Camp Lejeune, N.C.

The United States Achievement Academy recently announced that Mary Elizabeth Moore of Fayetteville, Ga. was a United States Natioanl Award Winner in Foreign Language. Moore, a student at Fayette County High School, was nominated for the award by her French teacher Mrs. Topp. Moore, daughter of Mike and Bebe Moore, will appear in the United States Achievement Academy Official Yearbook.

James Matthew Watson, a junior at Washington and Lee University, earned honor roll status for the winter term. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Watson of Peachtree City, Ga.

Jessica Lash, a student at East Fayette Elementary School, has been accepted into the People to People World Leadership Forum. Lash will join a select group of students in Washington, D.C. October 20-26, 2003 to earn school credit while exploring some of our nation's most prominent monuments and institutions.

From Capitol Hill to the Smithsonian Institute, and from Colonial Williamsburg to the National Museum of American History, students will delve into the characteristics of American leadership during times of national challenge and prosperity. Forum delegates will participate in small-group discussions and exercises to experience first hand how successful leaders develop strategies, make decisions, build consensus and foster change.

Lash was nominated and accepted for the honor based on outstanding scholastic merit, civic involvement and leadership potential.

The program is coordinated by People to People Ambassador Programs to fulfill the vision Dwight D. Eisenhower had for fostering world citizenship when he founded People to People during his presidency in 1956.

Lash is the daughter of Daniel and Linda Lash.

Lisa Cornelius, a senior at Starr's Mill High School, has been awarded a $5,000 Lawrence University Alumni Scholarship for outstanding scholastic achievement. The merit-based scholarship is renewable annually with demonstration of continued academic excellence. She is the daughter of Steven and Marie Cornelius, Peachtree City.
