YMCA receives United Way grant

United Way in Fayette County has announced that a grant of $10,000 will be made to the YMCA of Fayette County. This announcement was made Friday at the Chamber of Commerce breakfast meeting at the Wyndham Conference Center in Peachtree City.

The United Way Investment Committee has approved a grant of $10,000 to be made to the YMCA of Fayette County for youth scholarships for summer camp. These scholarships make sliding scale fees affordable to every child in Fayette County regardless of the financial circumstances. Last year some 52 families received scholarships and 2100 campers received scholarship assistance.

This grant of $10,000, made possible by a generous gift from the Best Buy Children's Foundation, will provide assistance for 170 campers this summer. This grant from Best Buy is part of their Corporate Best Buy Grand Opening grant program. It commemorates the opening last fall of Best Buy store in Fayetteville.

Best Buy supports these grants on a national basis with every store grand opening. The grants are intended specifically to "support local lprograms and initiatives that enhance the lives of children and their families." The grants must be made to youth serving organizations in the respective community and must be used to support the operations of existing programs.
