Monday night storm does little damage
Monday night's thunderstorms brought high winds to Fayette County that downed power lines in some areas and partially uprooted a 100-year-old tree, according to emergency officials. After the tree was uprooted, it hung over a home in the River Forest subdivision in north Fayette County, said Capt. Pete Nelms of the Fayette County Department of Fire and Emergency Services. The family in that home was ordered to evacuate and not allowed to return to the home because of the potential hazard of the tree falling, Nelms said. In Peachtree City, there were no reports of storm damage but firefighters removed several trees that had fallen into the road. The largest tree blocked all of Prime Point and one lane of Ga. Highway 54, said Fire Chief Stony Lohr. The city's public works department responded to help firefighters get that tree out of the way, Lohr added. Part of Robinson Road was blocked off during the night as gas crews repaired a leak in the natural gas delivery system, Lohr noted. John Munford
