Fayetteville honors developers for exceeding requirements By JOHN
MUNFORD
Local developers were honored Tuesday morning by the city of Fayetteville during the first-ever "Developments of Excellence" awards presentation. The winners were chosen by a committee that included Mayor Ken Steele, Planning and Zoning Commission Chairman Myron Coxe and director of planning and zoning Jahnee Prince. The winners were selected because of their commitment to quality development, Prince said. They "went far above and beyond the bare minimum of the zoning ordinance requirements," she added. "We have some developers who really want to do the right thing for the community, and these awards really recognize that," Prince said. Wachovia Bank, which won the award for best use of signage in the Main Street district, gave up the use of its "corporate colors" on its signage in exchange for colors that are more historically accurate, Prince said. The company did so on both of its signs, although one of the signs isn't within the boundaries of the historic district, she added. The Walgreen's drug store on Ga. Highway 85 north won the award for best landscaping. "It looks like a park," Prince said. Other winners were: The Fayette Pavilion, best large scale commercial project. The Chick-Fil-A on Ga. Highway 85 south, best small scale commercial project. Burger King, best renovation. The Villages, best mixed use design. Cleveland Elementary School, best environmental use. The Holiday Dorsey Fife House, Best Main Street project. The Villages Amphitheater, best public project. Jeff Davis Intown, best redevelopment. Apple Orchard, best residential development. ABC Pediatrics, best architecture. Southern Oaks on Jeff Davis Drive.
