Newnan marks 175 years this weekend

From trolley rides to parades, the city of Newnan's 175th anniversary this weekend will have something for everone.

The best way to see the living history that is Newnan during the 175th Anniversary celebration will be by trolley. The Newnan Greeter Tours begin today. Tours are scheduled to begin at noon, 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m. with tours lasting about 45 minutes.

The Newnan Greeter Tours will show off the City's five National Register Historic Districts showing the architectural history of the City of Homes. Elizabeth Beers is heading up the Newnan Greeter Tours

On Sunday, the largest parade ever in the city's history will take place.

The "Salute To Volunteers" parade is scheduled to strut through town beginning at 3 p.m. The Grand Marshal's will be the elders of the city all of which are over 90 years of age.

The parade also features seven floats depicting the 175-year history of Newnan by the quarter century. The parade will travel on Jackson Street through downtown and out LaGrange Street to Newnan High School.

The Newnan-Coweta Art Association Art Show will beautify the Court Square Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. when some of the areas finest artisans will have their creations on display. Newnan city officials are urging all residents to participate in the celebration and be a part of history in the making.
