Blood drive, collection for troops tomorrow

The Sunshine House at 1108 Bear Creek Blvd. in Hampton is hosting a Town Mailing Open House to benefit the men and women in our armed forces serving overseas.

The community is invited to drop by the center Thursday, April 24, from 7-9 p.m. to help prepare care packages for the troops out of Fort McPherson's 335th Theatrical Signal Command unit. Letter-writing stations will also be set up so that local citizens can let the troops know how proud they are of their commitment to our country. Refreshments will be provided.

Representatives from the Red Cross' Armed Forces Emergency Services department will be taking monetary donations to help support the 280-plus troops.

The following items are being collected: baby wipes, wet wipes, foot powder, lip balm, Chap Stick with sunscreen, suntan lotion, deodorant, toiletries, toothbrushes, toothpaste, phone cards, note cards, hard candy, chewing gum, Kool-aid, Gatorade powder, energy bars, beef jerky and AA batteries. To make a donation, just stop by or all 770-897-0603.

A blood drive will also take place Thursday from 5-9:30 p.m. at The Sunshine House. All donors receive a recognition T-shirt and a cholesterol screening.

Donors must be at least 17 years of age, weigh at least 103 pounds and show a valid ID. For more information, call Lifesouth at 404-329-1994 or Julie Romero at 770-897-0603.
