Active Duty

Marine Corps Lance Cpt. Jonathan D. Schmidt, a resident of Fayetteville, was recently called to active duty in support of the global war on terrorism while assigned to Company "L", 3rd Battlion, 23rd Marines, 4th Marine Division, based in Montgomery, Ala.

Navy Seaman Daniel D. Mundy, son of Laureen A . and Roger D. Mundy of Peachtree City and a 1998 graduate of McIntosh High School, is currently in the Arabian Gulf supporting the global war on terrorism while assigned to the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Kitty Hawk, forward deployed to Yokosuka,Japan.

Navy Seaman Recruit Alexis L. Oliver, daughter of Sophia L. and Edward E. Oliver of Peachtree City, recently arrived off the coast of Kuwait in the North Arabian Gulf while assigned to the dock landing ship USS Rushmore, homeported in San Diego. She is a 2001 graduate of Morrow High School.

Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Joshua A. Toles, son of Sherie D. Cunningham of Antioch, Tenn., and Alvin Toles of Fayetteville, recently made his way through the Straits of Gibraltar and into the Mediterranean Sea while assigned to the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, based in Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Marine Corps Pfc. Scott C. Olson, son of Ida M. and Dale C. Olson of Peachtree City and a 2001 graduate of McIntosh High School, recently made his way through the Straits of Gibraltar and into the Mediterranean Sea while assigned to the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, based in Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Norman D. Potter has recently been promoted to the rank of colonel in the United States Air Force. A 1973 graduate of Russell High School in East Point and a former resident of Fayetteville, he earned a bachelor of science degree in engineering technology from the University of Alabama and a master's degree in International Studies from Troy State University. He is the son-in-law of Mrs. Loren Carroll of East Point and the late Robert C. Carroll. Col. Potter is the son of Shirley and Ken Morgan of Elizabethton, TN and the late James D. Potter.

Col. Potter is the former Commander of the 42 Airborne Command and Control Squadron, which flew EC-130E Hercules aircraft at Davis-Monthan AFB, Arizona. He is currently assigned to the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon. Potter is married to the former Pamela Carroll. Col. and Mrs. Potter are the parents of Trent, a 2002 graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and Heath, a junior at UT.
