Council to hear tax request, liquor license issues

A proposal to freeze the tax assessments of homeowners age 70 and over is on the agenda for Thursday's regular Peachtree City Council meeting, but the chance that action can be taken on it this legislative term is almost zero.

It might have been dead on arrival. City staff determined that the deadline for submitting a local law to the legislature has past, and a vote by the lawmakers would be needed to OK the local referendum the tax freeze seeks.

"It is practically impossible to have this matter addressed this year," said city attorney Ted Meeker. He suggested the issue be table and brought up again next year.

Also on the agenda, council will hear several requests to transfer liquor licenses, including one for the Ashland Grille at the Tennis Center; hold a public hearing on a variance request for 219 Sandown Drive; Consider changes to the employee sick-leave policy.

The meeting is Thursday at 7 p.m. in City Hall chambers.
