One man was tortured with electrical shocks and another was shot in the arm during a home invasion in northeast Fayette County last week, according to police.

The suspects entered the residence claiming to be police officers, and they confronted three Hispanic males who were asleep early Monday morning at a residence on Palmetto Road outside of Tyrone, said Lt. Mahlon Donald of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department. The victims quickly found out the suspects weren't police, Donald added.

The suspects demanded to know where the drugs and money were located and they tied up each of the victims, holding them at gunpoint, Donald said.

One of the victims, Arturo Murillo, 27, was shot in the right forearm and treated for that injury, Donald said. Another victim was shocked as one of the suspects tore apart a lamp and plugged the wire into the wall to administer the electrical current on the victim's feet, which had been splashed with soda to conduct the electricity, Donald said.

"They were shocking him, trying to get him to tell where the drugs were," Donald said.

While the suspects got away with some money, there was no evidence of drugs being at the location, Donald said. The Sheriff's Department's drug K-9 unit searched the residence and found no traces of drugs, Donald added.

Although details were sketchy because it was dark in the room while the suspects used flashlights, it is believed three of the suspects were dark skinned males and two were Hispanic females, Donald said. All of the suspects spoke Spanish, he added.

Detectives are continuing to follow leads on the case, Donald said. It is believed the suspects got away in a black van.

"There aren't many good leads, but what we do have we are working on," Donald said.

Although this type of case is rare for Fayette County, they are becoming more common in areas with larger Hispanic populations such as Fulton and Clayton counties, Donald said.
