The Witness

By KNOX HERNDON
Pastor

Tonight (Saturday, April 12) from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Ga. Highway 85 south of Senoia, we will be hosting the second night of our annual "Outdoor Journey to Jerusalem" Easter story. This very authentic Easter experience will be seen from an open wagon, which will take people on a 15-acre ride on an open trailer to four spiritual venues.

You can see the empty Jerusalem market where the crowds flocked to witness the trial of Jesus. You will see the trial with authentic Roman soldiers portrayed by actual Roman re-enactors. Pontius Pilate will sentence Jesus, to the jeers of the crowd.

You will board the wagon and ride to outside of the city wall where Jesus hangs on the cross and utters His last words. You will then travel to the tomb where the Romans have pledged to keep the tomb sealed. You will see the risen Christ come forth from the tomb where men still today claim Him as Lord and Savior of mankind.

Why do we do these things? Why do we go through the effort to tell this 2,000-year-old story? What if no one comes to see it? Will it all have been in vain? Will the effort be a failure?

Do you remember the movie "Chariots of Fire?" The main character was a deeply committed Christian athlete named Eric Little who, when asked why he ran, replied, "I run for His pleasure."

We and other churches do this each year "for His pleasure." We do it to make Him visible to the world. We do His work to be obedient.

One day we will all be off the scene which we call "life." Someone in our family will be sitting at funeral home and discussing all the last details of our time her on earth. Many nice words will probably be spoken on our behalf and probably friends and loved ones will have their chance to say their piece.

All of that will be good, as it should be, but there is one phrase that will outlast all other phrases and things we would like said about us. That most wanted and hoped for phrase will come from Jesus of Nazareth: "Well done, thou good and faithful servant."

It is our hope and prayer that you will discover anew this Jesus of Nazareth risen from the tomb! Come, Lord Jesus!
