Alert bystanders helped Fayetteville police collar a kidnapping suspect who attacked an employee at the Brass Hangar dry cleaning store on Ga. Highway 54 West Monday morning, police said.

Witnesses heard the victim screaming and called 911, following the suspect as he drove away in a brown van, police said.

The suspect, Dwayne Anthony Lindsey of Fayetteville, was arrested minutes after the incident on New Hope Circle just north of Fayetteville, according to police. He is charged with felony kidnapping (criminal attempt) and misdemeanor counts of battery, simple battery and possession of marijuana (less than one ounce).

Lindsey is being held at the Fayette County Jail awaiting a bond hearing before a Superior Court Judge, which is required because of the kidnapping charge.

According to police, Lindsey entered the store after 10 a.m. and handed the victim a note, police said. Records indicate the note "told her to go with him."

Lindsey then went behind the counter and grabbed the victim around the neck, police said, pulling her to the side door of the business where she was able to get away from him.

The victim was injured when she fell, suffering scrapes to her elbow and ankle, according to reports. Her lip was also injured when Lindsey grabbed her around the neck, reports said.
