Aviation parts supplier relocates to PTC By MICHAEL BOYLAN and By JOHN THOMPSON
The largest supplier of aircraft parts and pilot supplies in the world, Aircraft Spruce and Specialty Company, is coming to Peachtree City. The company, currently located in Griffin, broke ground Saturday at a piece of property adjacent to Falcon Field. The new building will house a 2,500-square-foot showroom and a 56,000-square-foot distribution and sales facility. It is expected to open by Oct. 16 of this year. "It is quite a coup for Falcon Field," said Fayette County Development Authority Chairman Chris Clark. Pilots will be able to drive or fly in to use the facility which will offer everything from hand-held global positioning systems (GPS) systems to headsets, intercoms, tools, hardwares and more. The facility's design will be based on the company's headquarters in Corona, Calif. Clark said the company wanted to use a local company to build the headquarters and chose Peachtree City's Group VI for the job. Aircraft Spruce and Specialty Company bills itself as a one-stop shop for pilots. "Like our Corona, Calif., facility, this new building will allow for efficient processing of larger volumes of orders and a larger store featuring more aircraft parts, avionics and pilot supplies," said company president, Jim Irwin, on the company's web site (www.aircraftspruce.com). The site advertises online ordering of 30,000 parts as well as catalog items. Clark said the company has already had an impact on business at Falcon Field. Southeast Piper recently announced it was opening a dealership near the airport and Gardener Aviation is building a 16,000 sq. ft. avionics facility in the airport's office park. "We hope this announcement will help bring other businesses to fill up the rest of the park," Clark said.
