The war in Iraq By
KNOX HERNDON
As I write this article, our gallant troops are closing in on Baghdad. By the time you read this it will, hopefully, be over. I thought of several other things to write about, but this subject is forever jumping in and out of my consciousness. It is interesting to me how bare truth can be shown on international television and people will still fail to believe it. It is further beyond my comprehension to see how supposedly educated thinking Americans would be foolish enough to want to believe the enemies of this country over their own president. It does, however, show how easily people can willfully be led astray. I am reminded of the stories in God's Word of how Jesus healed the blind, made the lame walk, turned water into wine and raised the dead. These were firsthand accounts by many witnesses, and yet there were those who didn't believe then and still don't believe today. There are those today who spend their lifetime attempting to say what God's Word "doesn't say." They never attempt to say what it does say. I periodically read in the media that there are groups that will say and print that the Holocaust never existed. In fact, I had a conversation with a man who espoused this point of view. I politely told him that the Holocaust did exist because my father was with some of the first troops that liberated Buchenwald Concentration Camp in World War II. This confused individual said to me, "I'm sure your father quoted what he thought he saw." He who has ears, let him hear! He who has eyes, let him see! I was on the Grenada operation "Urgent Fury" in October 1983. I was serving with the 82nd Airborne Division and we overran seven large warehouses completely full of Russian weapons, ammunition, combat field equipment, uniforms and food stuffs. There was enough there to supply a small army. I then remember the media accusing us of bringing all that equipment in to "justify us going into the island." It was hard enough to get our own supplies in, much less shipping this stuff in to photograph it. We must always remember in life that "we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual wickedness in high places." By the way, that is out of the Bible. We must always remember that the "deceiver" is ever at work constantly to keep us from the truth. Again, I believe it was brilliant to have reporters accompany the troops for firsthand information. In my most humble opinion, this is the first time since Viet Nam that these men and women have been reporting a true prospective of the battle field and not having it filtered through their former liberal handlers. Speaking of "truth," our coalition forces are running over place after place in Iraq where torture and death chambers have been used to prop up Saddam's godless regime. I believe when the fighting stops and the people of Iraq feel free to speak the truth, you will hear story after story of misery, death and torture that will compare to Stalin, Hitler and Mao. God's Word says, "You will know the truth and the truth will set you free." Pray every day for our president, our leaders, and the servicemen and women who are making it all happen. We are told in God's Word to also pray for our enemies a tough thing to do in time of war. My prayer in this area is that they would understand the saving and loving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and no longer be our enemy. If this does not happen, I pray that they will lay down their arms so that there will be no more war. If this does not happen, I pray that our forces finish the war in victory with the fewest causalities on both sides. Long live a free Iraq.
