PTC forms study circles to study young person concerns

Citizens young and old joined together in March to discuss their findings after four weeks of meeting in the Study Circle Process.

The Study Circle Process brought together six teams of 10 to 12 people each to discuss common issues related to life as a young person in Peachtree City. Over the course of the last month or so these groups have been meeting at New Hope Baptist Church's South Campus.

From their work, three main areas of concern emerged for further study: Forming a council of youth who can have a voice on issues facing youth in the community; determining a place or places where youth can engage in wholesome activities with reasonable but not overwhelming supervision; and creating ways to strengthen the relationships between the police and youth.

Three groups were formed, consisting of youth and adults, who will each study one of the areas and develop recommendations for the whole group and the community to consider. Each group has scheduled follow-on meetings during which they will develop ideas to address these areas.

A group of students and some adults met last night to discuss methods of forming a Youth Council. There will be three upcoming meetings. A group will meet April 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the Recreation Administration building to talk about how to improve the police and youth relationship. The third group will meet April 22 at 6:30 p.m. in the new United Methodist Church on Robinson Road to discuss youth activities. Then, all three groups will join together May 6 for a larger meeting to discuss their findings and ideas. Another large group meeting is planned for September as well.
