A variety of events are planned for Friday's rally to support local troops stationed overseas fighting the war against Iraq.

Local residents are being urged to submit the names of Fayette Countians who are serving overseas and here in America, said Nancy Price, director of Fayetteville's Main Street program. The names will be displayed on a giant screen during the ceremony, which begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Villages Amphitheater next to Fayette County High School.

Names may be submitted by calling Fayetteville City Hall at 770-461-6029 or by e-mail to nprice@fayetteville-ga-us.org.

The rally will also feature a candlelight vigil and a brief presentation by Ronnie and Kay Young, whose son Ronnie has been captured as a prisoner of war while serving in the Middle East. A prisoner of war ceremony will also be held.

The FCHS band will provide patriotic music while Erica Smith from Sandy Creek High School will sing the national anthem.

The event will be emceed by Col. Ted Mallory of Fayetteville.

Those planning to attend should bring blankets and lawn chairs for seating. Parking is available in the high school parking lot.
