United Way event April 3 at SummerGrove

United Way of Coweta will be holding a "thank you" event at the SummerGrove Golf Clubhouse April 3 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

The festivities are to thank a wide range of persons who provide leadership to United Way in a variety of ways.

These include--leadership givers, persons who give UW $1,000 or more a year whether in installments through payroll deduction or as a single gift, board members and other volunteers, community leaders and company leaders.

United Way is also honoring the Pacesetter companies. Pacesetters are companies that agree to run early model campaigns.

This year they include BonL, Target,Southern Mills, Excel, Bank of Coweta, Farmers and Merchants Community Bank, NCARC/Rutledge, Heritage School, who support fund-raising efforts in their companies, and a variety of "friends" of United Way.

The United Way Board of Directors will be in attendance to add their thanks to that of the staff and campaign committee members.

The event is being paid for by sponsorships from Atlanta Gas Light and Georgia Power. S&R Catering of Carrollton is donating the food.

According to event co-organizer, Dale Taylor, who represents United Way of Coweta on the metro Atlanta Board, "We just wanted to take the time to thank some of those people in Coweta who made last year's campaign as successful as it was. Coweta County was able to achieve an increase in funds raised which in the current economic climate is really something to be proud of."

"This is designed strictly as a 'thank you.' This event is not a fundraiser and we will not solicit additional donations," said Jesse Killings, Campaign Committee Chairman and event co-organizer. "We just want United Way's community leaders to come together to have a good time, get to know each other better and learn more about the great programs their generosity helps to make possible. United Way started with caring and giving neighbors coming together to address community issues. We want to celebrate that tradition by saying thank you."

Among the programs supported by United Way in Coweta are CORRAL, the Boys & Girls Club, Habitat for Humanity, both the Boy and Girl Scouts, Communities in Schools, Stepping Stones and CLICK. Over 50 programs that operate in or service Coweta County are supported through United Way.
