With little fanfare or discussion, the Peachtree City City Council gave approval last Thursday to a system that will allow traffic ticket fines to be paid online.

Courtware Solutions, Inc., which provides the city's court system software, developed the online citation payment process, one that's used in several counties around Atlanta, including Cobb and Clayton counties, said city staff.

The computer payment option will require that the administration fee for paying traffic fines be raised to $5, which will cover both the cost and upkeep of the software and the expense to the city for establishing "merchant" credit card accounts.

No date has been set for launching the system.

In other business Thursday:

·The council tabled, at the request of the city attorney, a request to make sure the city is saving all e-mail files sent or received by any elected official. The archival process falls under the state's open records act, according to city staff, and would include only those e-mails sent or received using the elected official's city address.

·Approved 3-2, with council members Dan Tennant and Annie McMenamin opposing, a resolution lending Peachtree City's support to a statehouse bill allowing cities to have referendums on MOST, or Municipal Option Sales Tax, a municipal version of the SPLOST.

Councilman Steve Rapson, speaking in favor of the bill, said he's "adamantly opposed" to raising taxes, but "anytime the voters choose to tax themselves, I'm OK with it."

·Tabled approving amendments to the city's ethics ordinance after Tennant argued city residents did not have ample opportunity to examine the final, corrected version.
