Swanson Road development gets approval at town council meetingBy MICHAEL
BOYLAN
After several tries, developer Burt Clark got a green light for his proposed development of a 31.45-acre tract at Swanson and Senoia roads from the Tyrone Town Council last Thursday night. From several options presented, the council chose the one that will feature 66 residential lots with connection to a private sewer system. But the approved plan will not give the town 37 acres of donated land on Laurelwood Drive, which was a part of another option. Though the property has multiple zonings, the lots will be single family homes in residential multifamily zoning, while the rest of the zoning will be commercial and office and industrial zoning. Councilman Paul Letourneau voted for the other option, which would include 14 more lots and would have tied onto the public sewer system but would have given the town the 37 acres of greenspace. The Planning Commission recommended variances to allow the development instead of changing zoning ordinances. The variances were to change the front setback and to allow residential multifamily to allow single family lots in that area. The tract will have to undergo environmental studies and a possible cleanup before development can begin. Clark stated that phase one of an environmental study has begun. Randy Boyd, who represented Clark and the property at the meeting, also asked council about the possibility of tying into the public sewer but were told by town attorney Brad Sears that they would have to approach the town manager before going before council. All council members, with the exception of Letourneau, approved the Planning Commission's recommendations to allow the development.
