Marijuana, cocaine seized by drug cops during 'buy' busts By JOHN MUNFORD
The Fayette County Sheriff's Department Drug Task Force has pulled a significant amount of drugs off the streets recently. The activity began when task force agents recently confiscated 10 pounds of marijuana from a suspect at the parking lot of the Pit Stop convenience store, according to sheriff's Sgt. Belinda McCastle. Agents had set up the "buy" by telling the suspect they'd pay $7,000 for the marijuana. That led the task force to another 10 pounds of marijuana in a separate deal for $6,500 and a kilo of cocaine in a third deal for $19,000. Two suspects were arrested during the cocaine "buy" and one of them had a gun that had been reported stolen from a Smyrna police officer, McCastle said. The suspect never pulled the gun, but it was found on the suspect during a search before deputies put the suspect in the back of a patrol car. Drug agents from Clayton County also took part in the busts, McCastle added. The suspects names are not being released because the incidents are still under investigation, McCastle said. The Fayette County Drug Task Force consists of undercover agents from the Sheriff's Department, the Tyrone Police Department and the Pike County Sheriff's Department.
