A Peachtree City boy was honored Wednesday for his heroism in getting his younger brother and sister to safety when a kitchen fire erupted at the family's home.

Treon Crouch, 12, was presented a certificate by Fire Chief Stony Lohr for acting appropriately during the incident. Lohr said Crouch, a student at J.C. Booth Middle School, did just what he was taught in fire safety classes get everyone to safety and call 911.

"He smelled the smoke and got his brother and sister out of the house even before the smoke detector went off," Lohr said.

Crouch didn't stop there, however. He somehow managed to put out the small fire before the fire department arrived.

The bashful tall teen accepted the certificate from Lohr in a brief surprise ceremony in front of his classmates Wednesday morning.

Crouch's parents, Sharon and Alvin, said they were very proud of their son's actions under pressure, particularly in saving 11-year-old sister Chelsea and 9-year-old brother Ishmael.
