Manufactured home request denied By JOHN
THOMPSON Coweta County gave thumbs down Tuesday night to a couple's proposal to place a 3,000 sq. ft. manufactured home on a 10-acre lot in the northern part of the county. The county's Manufactured Home Compatibility Standards Review Committee had turned down Mark Elsey's request to place his trailer on Tommy Lee Cook Road. Elsey planned to place the home on a full basement, which would actually make the total square footage of the home more than 6,000 sq. ft. In his letter appealing the committee's ruling, Elsey made an impassioned plea for the Coweta County Commission to overturn the committee's decision. "Please understand that my wife and I have already spent over $70,000 towards the completion of our dream home. When completed we will have invested over $240,000 into this project," he said. But county planning director Robert Tolleson countered Elsey's home would be incompatible with other homes in the area. "We have to look at trends in the area. The trend is for one and a half to two story homes," he said. The committee also said other homes in the area had siding material such as brick and vinyl and also had greater roof pitches than the proposed manufactured home. The County Commission sided with the committee and a visibly upset Elsey and his wife left the commission chambers.
