Students celebrate National Read Across America Day

Schools throughout Fayette participated in National Read Across America Day March 3. This annual event is a celebration of reading sponsored by the National Education Association and coincides with the birthday of beloved children's author Dr. Seuss.

Fayette's students celebrated reading and Dr. Seuss' birthday by participating in a variety of fun and educational activities. Oak Grove Elementary invited guest readers to read aloud to students throughout the day. Among the guest readers were Peachtree City Fire Chief Stony Lohr, police officers from the Peachtree City Police Department, Peachtree City Mayor Steve Brown and School Superintendent John DeCotis.

Hood Avenue Primary got into the spirit of the day with two Cats in the Hat hosting its morning newscast followed by a 15 minute reading period. Leading up to the event, students at the school had been busy reading an assortment of Dr. Seuss books and made a school-wide graph depicting their favorites. At lunch, students got to enjoy one of Dr. Seuss' famous meals, green eggs and ham.
