Man charged for leading deputies on chase into Atlanta ThursdayBy JOHN
MUNFORD
A man who led sheriff's deputies on a chase from north Fayette County into Atlanta Thursday faces several criminal charges. Jamaal Everett Nash, 21, is charged with attempting to flee and elude a police officer, reckless driving, driving with a suspended or revoked license, aggressive driving, failure to obey a traffic control device, driving without proof of insurance, driving with an improper tag and driving without a valid registration. Nash has been released from the jail on a $5,600 bond. The pursuit of Nash began on Ga. Highway 279 north when a deputy tried to pull over the car for not having a tag on display, said Maj. Bruce Jordan, director of investigations for the Fayette County Sheriff's Department. The chase winded along Flat Shoals Road to Ga. Highway 85 and Interstate 75 before reaching I-285, Jordan said. The patrol cars were out of Fayette County's radio range, but the department's helicopter, "Hawk 1," was overhead and relayed information to vehicles on the ground that led to Nash's capture, Jordan said. Deputies were able to use the "pit" maneuver to disable Nash's vehicle by striking it, Jordan said.
