Emma Ruth Watkins


Emma Ruth Watkins, 72, Fayetteville, died Feb. 23, 2003. She was born Dec. 17, 1930 in Siler City, N. C. She was formerly a nurse at Watts Hospital, Durham, N. C. She was formerly a member of John Knox Presbyterian Church in Greenville for 20 years and at her death, she was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Fayetteville. Services were at the Covenant Presbyterian Church, Fayetteville, with the Rev. Dale Weldon officiating. Interment was at Oakwood Cemetery, Siler City, N. C. Survivors are her husband William Henry “Bill” Watkins, Fayetteville; a son, Gregg and Anne Watkins, Charlotte, N. C.; a daughter, Debbie and Stan James, Fayetteville; grandchildren, Joshua Watkins, Mary Watkins, William Watkins, and Katelyn Ruth James; a brother, Buddy and Jean Darden, Clemmons, N. C.; and a sister, Polly and Ben Moody, Siler City, N. C. Alice C. Imbrogno


Alice C. “Louise” Imbrogno, 91, Union City, died February 24, 2003. She was born Oct. 31, 1911 in Anderson, Anderson County, S. C. She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Joseph Imbrogno. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Tyrone. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with Minister Wye Huxford and Minister Billy Rowe officiating. Interment was at Westview Cemetery, Atlanta. Survivors include a daughter, Christy Jinks, Fayetteville; grandsons, Jeffrey Jinks, Atlanta, and Chris and Teresa Jinks, Senoia; and great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Jinks and Sarah Jinks, both of Senoia. Memorial donations may be made to the Southwest Christian Hospice, 7225 Lester Road, Union City, GA 30291-2316. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge.

Walter Simpson


Walter Simpson, 83, Rawlings, Md. died Feb. 25, 2003. He was born Nov. 17, 1919 in Gilmore, Md. Services and interment were handled by the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, Midland, Md. Survivors include sons, Dave and Kelly Simpson, Tyrone, and Walter H. and Cecilia Simpson III, Gales Ferry, Conn.; daughters, Donna and Lynn Inman, Roscoe, Ill, and Sheila and John Kinnie, Frostburg, Md.; sisters, Emily Allen, Frostburg, Md., and Doris Arnold, Rawlings, Md.; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Parrott Funeral Home, Fairburn, handled the local arrangements.

Mildred Reese Chappell


Mildred Reese Chappell, 80, died Feb. 26, 2003. She was born Oct. 24, 1932 in Knoxville, Tenn., and spent most of her life in Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, David Yates Chappell Jr. She was a medical secretary for 35 years and also served as financial secretary at Grace United Methodist Church, Merritt Island, Fla., where she was a member for 38 years. Services were at the chapel of the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Sam Matthews officiating. Survivors include a son, David Y. Chappell III, Fayetteville; a daughter, Christine Conner, Lake Mary, Fla.; and a granddaughter, Larissa Carter, Ormond Beach, Fla. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge.

Maudell L. Weed


Maudell L. Weed, 80 Fayetteville, died Feb. 28, 2003. She was born Aug. 20, 1922 in Hall County, Ga. She was preceded in death by her husband, James F. Weed. In her earlier years she was a traveling evangelist and more recently, she was a member of Still Waters Church, Fayetteville. Services were at the Parkway Garden Chapel, Forest Park, with interment following at the Weed Gresham Cemetery, Tucker, Ga. The Rev. Mark Paschal officiated. Survivors include sons, Jimmy and Hilda Weed, McDonough, Johnny Weed, Hampton, Don Weed and Mark Weed, both of Forest Park, and Ron Weed, Decatur, Ga.; daughters, Jeannette and Greg Moody and Judy and Gerald Tweedell, all of Fayetteville; 13 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. Thomas L. Scroggs, Parkway Garden Chapel, Forest Park, was in charge.

John D. Stell


John D. Stell, 96, Fayetteville, died March 1, 2003. He was born Aug. 13, 1906, in Fayette County, the son of Walter Joseph and Betty Gilbert Stell. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Porreca Stell and his twin sister, Mildred Stell Fincher. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Dr. Sam Matthews and the Rev. Marshall Gill officiating. Interment was at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City. Survivors include a nephew, George Hugh and Polly Stell, Fayetteville; and nieces, Mary Frances and Hugh Smith, Peachtree City, and Betty Wilkinson, Fayetteville. Memorial donations may be made to the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church or Embracing Hospice. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge.

Edna Couch Barber


Edna Couch Barber, 74, Peachtree City, died March 3, 2003. She was born Nov. 15, 1928 in Fayette County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Barber, and parents, Harvey and Sarah Emma Whitlock Couch, and a brother, Bradley Couch. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Bobby Carpenter and the Rev. Rick Whitlock officiating. Interment was at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City. Survivors include children, Beverly and Larry Moore and Cheryl and Donald Brandenburg, all of Sharpsburg, and Debbie Tucker, Metter; grandchildren, Lisa Phillips, Watkinsville, Ga., Bryan Milan, Fairburn, John Billingsley, Alaska, Dana Billingsley, Metter, and Amanda Brandenburg, and Matthew Brandenburg, both of Sharpsburg; great-grandchildren, Jacob Phillips and Stephen Phillips, both of Watkinsville; a brother, Ferrell and Betty Couch, Riverdale, and sisters, Leverne and Joe Mask, Fayetteville, and Donna and Buddy McClendon, Locust Grove. Dan Curtis Morrow Sr.


Dan Curtis Morrow Sr., 63, Fayetteville, died March 8, 2003. He was born July 11, 1939 in Englewood, Tenn. He was preceded in death by his father, Julian David Morrow. He was a retired inspector for Ford Motor Company, Hapeville. Services were at the McKoon Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Don Helms officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Newnan. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Sue Roe Morrow, Fayetteville; a son, Dan Curtis Morrow Jr., Fayetteville, a daughter, Patti and Henry Scott, Newnan; mother, Julia Sue Thompson Morrow; grandchildren, Danielle Scott and Hailey Scott, both of Newnan; brothers, Hoyle Morrow, and Jerry Morrow, both of Maryville, Tenn., and Bill Morrow, Knoxville, Tenn; and a sister, Fay Ingels. McKoon Funeral Home, Newnan, was in charge.
