Students selected to participate in state science fair
Several Fayette students who showcased their scientific knowledge at the Griffin RESA (Regional Education Services Agency) Regional Science and Engineering last month will be advancing to the state competition in April. A total of 18 projects represented by 13 of the county's middle and high school students were part of the regional fair that incorporated seven counties including Butts, Griffin-Spalding, Henry, Lamar, Newton and Thomaston-Upson as well as Fayette. Judges selected nine of Fayette's projects for inclusion in the Georgia Science and Engineering Fair scheduled for April 3-5 at the University of Georgia's Athens Campus. Students advancing to the state fair are Shelby Bachman, J.C. Booth Middle; Tommy Cook, J.C. Booth Middle; Chris Wiles, Flat Rock Middle; Ravi Dayabhai, Young Kim and Billy Wilson, Flat Rock Middle; Andrew Ash and Andrew Zheng, Rising Starr Middle; Harry B. Jeffries, Fayette County High; Andrew Leonard, McIntosh High; Kenny Phillips, McIntosh High and Angela Garza and Erin Patterson, Starr's Mill High. There were 132 projects in the regional competition with 178 students participating. Projects receiving only first place awards advance to the state level.
