Angela Robinson to Keynote Clayton State Women's History Month Observance

Angela Robinson, former WXIA-TV news anchor and current host of "In Contact" on PBS, will be the keynote speaker for Clayton State's Women's History Month observance.

Robinson will be speaking Tuesday, Mar. 18, at noon in room 12 of the University's Lecture Hall. The theme for the Women's History Month celebration will be "Women Pioneering for the Future" and Robinson will be focusing on her experiences as a pioneer and leader in the Communications field.

Robinson's keynote speech is free and open to the public. Among those in attendance are expected to be many of Clayton State's communications and media studies majors.

The curriculum of the communication and media studies major, which officially started at Clayton State in August 2002, equips graduates with a solid theoretical and historical understanding of human communication combined with training in digital technologies, ethics, aesthetics, and technical writing.

The communication and media services major is designed to produce speakers and writers who are also fluent in the ethical, social, and technological dimensions of professional communication. In addition, students who want to emphasize communications in a global context will choose curriculum options that lead to foreign language competence. As a result, graduates will be well equipped to succeed within a global economy that is increasingly defined by the movement of information. The program's first graduates, including former Clayton State student newspaper editor Kevin Dixon or Warner Robins, will complete their degrees this coming May.

The department also prepares students for careers in some of the fastest-growing sectors of the local and national economy. Economists expect that the technological shift to electronic communication and commerce will increase the need for those who produce content notably writers and designers because electronic publications are updated more often than their paper predecessors.
