Obituaries

Nettie Benton


Nettie Benton, 85, Fairburn, died Feb. 13, 2003. She was born July 30, 1917 in Fayette County, the daughter of Arby and Jenellie Blalock Turner. She was preceded in death by her husband, Julian Benton. Services were at the Parrott Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Mark Outlaw, the Rev. Dr. Sam Matthews and the Rev. Herb Flanders officiating. Interment was at Bethany United Methodist Church Cemetery. Survivors include a daughter, Charlotte and Allen Hearn, Fairburn; brothers, Byron Turner and Leonard Turner, Fayetteville; sisters, Kathryn Walker, Union City, and Helen Williams, Fayetteville; grandchildren Mike and Kim Hearn and Mark and Sherry Hearn; and great-grandchildren, Matthew, Ashley, Shelby, Rachel, and Craig. Parrott Funeral Home, Fairburn, was in charge.

Francis Clune


Francis Clune, 66, Peachtree City, died Feb. 18, 2003. He was born Jan. 31, 1937 in Ennis, Ireland. Services were at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with the Rev. Father John Walsh officiating. Interment was at Ennis, Ireland. Survivors include his wife, Angelika Clune, Peachtree City; sons, Brendan Clune, Peachtree City, and Sean and Michelle Clune, New York; a daughter, Eileen Clune, Peachtree City; brothers, Oliver Clune and Joseph Clune, both of Ireland; and sisters, Teresa Naughtor, Bernadette Clune, and Sister Maria Clune, all of Ireland. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Peachtree City, was in charge.

Mary Louise Palmer


Mary Louise Palmer, 83, died Feb. 20, 2003. She was born Aug. 25, 1919 in Enterprise, Kan. to Thurman and Gilberta Sherwood. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Ralph Palmer, and a brother, Robert Sherwood. They had moved to Peachtree City in 1993. She was graduated from Great Bend High School in Kansas and attended State University of Manhattan Kansas where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta social society. She had been employed by Beech Aircraft Company in Wichita, Kan. as an executive secretary. Later she was a reporter-editor for the Naperville Sun in Naperville, Ill. Memorial services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel. Survivors include a son, Steve S. Palmer, Mount Shasta, Calif.; a daughter, Sherrill Sliger, Peachtree City; a sister, Diana and Bill Rinehart, Tulsa, Okla.; and grandchildren, Scott Sligar and Kellie Sligar, Peachtree City. Andrew Adrian Blum


Andrew Adrian “Andy” “The Big A” Blum, 60, Fayetteville, died Feb. 22, 2003. He was born Oct. 16,1942 in Nutley, N. J. He served his country as a ceremonial honor guard in the United States Marine Corps. Services were at the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Sam Matthews officiating. Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Sarah Eller Blum, Fayetteville; sons, Chris and Julie Blum and Kenny and Natasha Blum; a daughter, Susie and Ward Bott; grandchildren, Kathryn, Rebecca, Abigail, and Emily; nephews, Jimmy and Lara Spears, Steven and Melody Spears; nieces, Kathy and Jerry Barronton, and Karen and Rob Ridikas; and a sister-in-law, Sue and Jim Spears. Amelia Felder Lambert


Amelia Felder Lambert, 98, Peachtree City, formerly of College Park, died Feb. 22, 2003. She was born Dec. 10, 1904 in Pike County, Miss. She was retired teacher after 35 years. She was a former member of the College Park Women's Club and the First Baptist Church of College Park. She was presently a member of the First Baptist Church of Peachtree City. Services were at the First Baptist Church of Peachtree City with the Rev. Steve Bingham officiating. Interment was at the College Park Cemetery. Survivors include sons, Dr. Clell J. and Ann Lambert Jr., Peachtree City, and Hugh F. and Susan Lambert, Gainesville, Ga.; grandchildren, Dr. William Lambert, Susan Lambert Sims, Lisa Lambert Bennett, Courtney Lambert Stewart, Elizabeth Lambert Norris, Hugh F. Lambert Jr., Vernon B. Williams, and Josh D. Williams.; and eight great-grandchildren. Parrott Funeral Home, Fairburn, was in charge.

Preston M. Turner


Preston M. Turner, 73, Fayetteville, formerly of Palmetto, died Feb. 22, 2003. He was born Aug. 29, 1929 in Fulton County. Services were at the Parrott Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Roy Godwin and the Rev. Garrett Arnold-Hoffman officiating. Interment was at the Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery, Palmetto. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Peek Turner, Fayetteville; a son, Payton and Terri Coggin, Newnan; daughters, Deborah and Drew Bentley, Susan Cannon, Palmetto, Kathy and Darren Conners, Fayetteville, Bonnie Johnson, Palmetto, and Kerry and Kenny Bourgeois, Ocala, Fla.; a brother, James and Barbara Turner, Sharpsburg; a sister, Elaine Draper, Jacksonville, Fla.; and nine grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation, Inc., Development Department, in care of Lois Hellerman or Julian Pearson, 1501 NW 9th Avenue, Miami, FL 33136-1494. William Thomas Callahan III


William Thomas “Tom” Callahan III, 70, Fayetteville, died Feb. 23, 2003. He was born June 19, 1932 in Fulton County. He began a love of music at the age of 7, playing in the Chicago Jr. Drummer & Bugle Corps before moving back to Atlanta. His family were members of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, Peachtree Street, Atlanta, where he began singing solos in the choir at the age of nine. He was graduated from Brown High School, Atlanta, where he played trumpet and violin. As a member of the 530th Air Force Band, he was called into active duty during the Korean War. He was graduated from Emory University, where he sang as tenor soloist in the Emory Glee Club and the Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. In the 1960s he sang three times as soloist with the Atlanta Symphony, and in 1965 sang the leading role in “The Legend of St. Nicholas” with the Atlanta Boys Choir, Atlanta, and the Town Hall, New York City. In 1967 he sang “The Star Spangled Banner” at every Braves game at the Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium. He was in the insurance business for many years as well as music director at five United Methodist churches as well at the Fayetteville First United Methodist. Memorial services were at the North Fayette United Methodist Church with the Rev. Raymond Long officiating. Interment services were at Brooks Memorial Cemetery. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Mary Parker Callahan, Fayetteville; a son, Bill and Anne Callahan, Townville, S. C.; a daughter, Patricia Callahan, LaGrange; a grandson, Will Callahan; a granddaughter, Mandy Callahan; and a sister, Patricia and Bill Mason, Atlanta.
