Assistance to local military families available at BBQ

Fayette County's American Legion Post 105 will host a barbecue dinner Monday, March 10, for local families who have had a spouse, son or daughter deployed and/or activated recently.

Representatives of various agencies will also be on hand to provide guidance and assistance with medical, financial or personal problems due to mobilization or deployment of a family member.

The event, which will be held at the post's log cabin headquarters on Ga. Highway 85 in Fayetteville, will begin at 7 p.m. Anyone wishing to attend children are also invited should RSVP by calling Ben Bauman at 770-631-6504, Thomasina Miller at 770-461-9372 or John Dufresne at 770-631-2494.

The post will assist family members of the U.S. Army's reserve corps in addition to active duty and National Guard members.

The post's ladies auxiliary will help spearhead the event; they in particular understand the difficulties experienced by families who have a spouse, son or daughter on duty in a potentially hostile area, officials said.
