Fayette educators report for military duty

Two Fayette County educators have received a leave of absence after being called to active military duty.

Bryan Tatum, a counselor at Huddleston Elementary, is a member of the Georgia National Guard and was scheduled to report to Fort Gillem Monday, according to a school spokesperson. He joined the Fayette County School System in August of last year.

Veteran McIntosh teacher Charles Buckle, who spent a year in Kuwait on a previous deployment, has been activated again as well. School officials do not know the destinations of either Tatum or Buckle, and acknowledged that such information is likely classified.

"We're honored to have them working for us, and honored that they are representatives from our school system serving our country," said Superintendent John DeCotis. "We support them, and they've gotten a large outpouring of support from their students in their schools as well."
