The Peachtree City United Methodist Church is partnering with the Fayette Samaritans and Square Foot Ministry to build a new facility for the Samaritans, a locally funded charity that helps Fayette residents who have temporary food and housing needs.

Serving as co-chairs for the church are Regis Carr and Kim Detwiler, who hosted a joint meeting at the church. Over 60 persons attended the meeting, representing 20 churches, the Samaritans and Square Foot Ministry.

Plans were laid out as to the specific positions needed to construct the 2,400 square foot facility the Samaritans need for a home. The 11-year-old nonprofit organization serves the county's needy by dispersing food and clothing as well as vouchers to pay utility bills.

It has been housed in loaned spaces and has been desperately needed adequate space of its own. Several months ago it began a campaign for building funds anticipating a need for $120,000.

Fayetteville Christian Church, at the corner of New Hope Road and Hickory Road, Fayetteville, donated some of its land to the organization, charging only $1 for a 100-year lease. This reduced the funds needed to $90,000.

The Square Foot Ministry is a nonprofit organization begun to assist needy Fayette Countians with building new homes, building wheelchair ramps or painting a house for a widow.

The two 501 (c) 3 groups got together to raise funds and raise a building.

The Peachtree City Methodist Church felt it important to take part in this ministry and are also assisting in both endeavors.

The building fund stands at $50,000 and the remaining $40,000 must be raised before construction can begin. Initial groundwork is scheduled to begin the first of April.

Those who would like to participate in any phase of the construction can attend the next meeting on Thursday, March 6, 7 p.m., Peachtree City United Methodist Church, Robinson Road.

Send donations to the Fayette Samaritans, 213 Jeff Davis Place, Suite 102, Fayetteville, Ga. 30214. Phone volunteers at 770-719-2707.
