For the second time in two weeks, a teenager has been arrested for armed robbery in Peachtree City.

A juvenile, 16, is charged with armed robbery after using a pistol to take $2 from a 17-year-old on a golf cart behind the Braelinn Village Shopping Center.

The suspect was found at home minutes after the incident because police saturated the area and quickly developed information on his whereabouts, Police Chief James Murray said.

The weapon was found just off the cart path where the suspect had ditched it as he fled the scene on foot, the chief said. The suspect's mother cooperated with police in their initial investigation, Murray added.

The suspect was tracked to his home in the Terrace Tay subdivision in Glenloch Village; he was arrested and taken to a youth detention center.

Murray said this incident is not related to the armed robbery of the Braelinn Village convenience store two weeks ago. Police also arrested four youths in connection with that case including the suspect who allegedly waved the gun in the store.

As to the close time frame between the teenager-committed armed robberies, Murray said, "I wish I had the answer."

"It also makes it more dangerous for the police officers who patrol the golf cart paths at night," Murray said. "You've got a kid with a gun and he's nervous and he might not make the right decision."

The incidents should serve as "a message to parents to know what your kids are doing and check up on them," Murray said.
