Dinner and auction brings together community and school
The community is invited to attend Peachtree City Elementary's first annual Spaghetti Dinner and Silent Auction Feb. 28 from 6-8 p.m. Items donated by local businesses such as Beard & Company and Elephants Tale will be up for bid including two tickets to a performance at the Frederick Brown, Jr. Amphitheater. Additionally, each class at the school has created themed baskets for chocolate lovers, gardeners and pampered chefs, to name a few, that will be auctioned to the highest bidder. The school's PTO is sponsoring the event and proceeds raised will be used to purchase needed items such as updating computers. However, PTO President Ramona Barfield says raising money is not the primary intent of the dinner and auction. "The board felt that we needed to concentrate on more events that would bring families together. It is so difficult for families to enjoy dinner together because of fast-paced lives and outside responsibilities. We thought this would be a great way to have a good dinner, meet other parents and community people and have some fun," she explained. Mueller Pasta has donated the spaghetti for the evening, which will be prepared by the school's lunchroom staff with the help of volunteers. Also included with the dinner will be salad, bread, drinks and dessert. Parent volunteers and students from the BETA Club will help serve guests. Festivities will begin at 6 p.m. with a preview of the items up for bid followed by the silent auction. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. with the announcement of the winners of the donated gifts rounding out the evening. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for children and can be purchased at Peachtree City Elementary. For more information contact the school at 770-631-3250.
