Peeples Elementary celebrates Dental Health Month

Kindergarteners at Peeples Elementary School participated in a unique and fun presentation Feb.7 in celebration of National Dental Health Month. Dr. Michael Mahaffey, an orthodontist in Peachtree City, entertained the students while teaching them about the importance of taking care of their teeth through brushing, flossing, and eating a proper diet.

The highlight of the morning was when Dr. Mahaffey made students into "living teeth" through the use of costumes. Kids dressed as baby teeth grew up, got brushed, got wiggly, and fell out. One stubborn baby tooth had to be "pulled out." As it usually happens in real life, the permanent teeth did not come in perfectly straight. Dr. Mahaffey placed costume braces on the teeth, gave them a rope "wire," and showed how an

orthodontist can straighten crooked teeth. Of course, the teeth enjoyed being brushed again and again.
