Free child safety seat check Mar. 6 at PTC Wal-Mart A child safety seat check will be held Thursday, March 6, at the Peachtree City Wal-Mart from 2-4 p.m. The check, which is free of charge, will be performed by 12 "students" from area public safety and health departments who are participating in an intensive four-day class to learn the ins and outs of child safety seats. The students will be on the lookout for recalled child safety seats and those that were possibly damaged in a motor vehicle crash. Experts recommend that child safety seats from a vehicle involved in an auto accident should be thrown away and replaced. Nationally, four of five child safety seats are improperly installed, according to instructor Robert Kurbes. Sometime, parents either have problems using the manual for the car seat or they fail to use the manual, which can cause improper installation of the seat, said instructor Sharon Conrad. The class will use hands-on exercises and classroom lectures to focus on current knowledge on the use and misuse of child safety seats and safety belts by children.
