Senoia embarks on clean-up By JOHN
THOMPSON Senoia is getting serious about cleaning up the town. On April 5 and 12, the city will participate in a city-wide cleanup that aims to get rid of much of the household trash that accumulates over the winter. The city plans to place dumpsters at the public works building and allow residents to bring all their old furniture and garbage to the site. Residents will be charged $5 per carload of trash to help defray the costs of the dumpsters and personnel, said Mayor Dianne Cleveland. The only items residents will not be able to dispose of are old tires and paint cans that still contain paint, she added. City officials had been studying the possibility of finding companies that would dispose of the tires and paint, but found the costs too prohibitive. City clerk Debbie Hogan said the cost of getting rid of just the paint could run into the thousands of dollars. City Councilman Bill Wood said he would like to see all items disposed of and Cleveland agreed with him. But since the cleanup is set for early April, she said it's important to get rid of as much household garbage as possible, and then focus on getting rid of the tires and paint in the fall or next spring.
