Two Senoia residents picked for hall of fame By JOHN
THOMPSON Coweta County honored its sports legends last week as 15 residents were inducted into the newly created Coweta Sports Hall of Fame. More than 400 residents packed the Coweta County Fairgrounds and Conference Center to hear the exploits of some of Coweta's greatest sports legends. Two of the inductees were raised in Senoia. John Wallace Adcock earned his credentials as a player on the University of Alabama basketball team and basketball coach in Alabama. During his playing days, he averaged 10 points a game for the Crimson Tide. He was a head basketball coach and an assistant football coach at walter Wellborn High School in Anniston, Ala. and won over 400 games in his coaching career. Marvin Webster Duke was born in Brooks, but attended school in Senoia. After attending Georgia Tech, he was signed by the Atlanta Crackers, who later traded him to the Yankee organization. Duke was a solid prospect for the Yankees and led their Erie, Pa., farm team in wins with 23 in 1929. He pitched several years in the organization, but never made it to the majors, because of the depth of the Yankee squad. Other inductees included: Thomas Amis William Ayers Frank "Bo" Barron Max Bass James Brewster Glenn Carpenter Thomas Glanton Andrew Hill James Hill, Jr Glenn Owens Ann Potts Lamar Potts Mattline Render
