Police chief says no to more stop signs By JOHN
THOMPSON Senoia commuters will not face another stop sign on Main Street in the foreseeable future. That's the recommendation from Police Chief Chuck Cannarella after studying the issue for the last month. The police chief borrowed a speed monitoring sign from Peachtree City and placed it on Main Street to conduct a speed survey. The majority of vehicles, the police chief said were going under 30 miles an hour. The most surprising aspect of the study was that more than 7,000 cars drove on Main Street in a 48-hour period. "I wouldn't have believed it unless I saw it for myself," Cannarella said. Since speeding at the intersection of Main and Middle Street does not appear to be a problem, Canarella said a stop sign could actually increase traffic congestion and increase the number of accidents, he added. The chief did recommend the city's public works department examine the intersection in the spring to see if the trees are causing bad sigh lines. If they are, he recommended they be cut back during the spring and summer months to improve visibility.
