Yvonne Quinn Childers


Yvonne Quinn Childers, 83, Fayetteville, died Feb. 2, 2003. She was born Aug. 5, 1919 in Biltmore, N. C. She was preceded in death by siblings, Roy Quinn, James Arthur Quinn, Clyne Henry Quinn, E. J. Franklin Quinn, Viola Quinn Williams, and Bobbie Quinn Warren, and a grandson, Markvan Bellamy Brooks. Services were at the McDonough Road Baptist Church, Fayetteville, with the Rev. Dr. David Chancey officiating. Survivors include her husband, Fred Childers, Fayetteville; sons, Fred E. and Linda Childers Jr., and Michael and Jennifer Childers Sr., all of Tampa, and Paul and Patti Childers, Woodbridge, Va.; daughters, Yvonne and Dr. Ken Kendrick, Fayetteville, Elizabeth and Ernest Fichtel Jr., Acworth; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Edythe Capps and Jean Metcalf, both of Asheville, N. Mattie Luther Williams Brown


Mattie Luther Williams Brown, 90, Peachtree City, died Feb. 2, 2003. She was born Jan. 16, 1913 in Fayette County, the daughter of William Johnie and Wreathy Elizabeth Spratlin Williams. She was preceded in death by her husband, Abon Brown and a daughter, Reba Pusch. She was previously a member of the East Point First Baptist Church, and has attended First Baptist Church of Peachtree City for many years, and sang in the choir. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with interment at Westminster Gardens, Peachtree City. Survivors include her children, Reuben and Carol Brown, and William Eddie Brown, all of Fayetteville, and Daniel F. and Karen Brown, Malden, N. C.; a brother, Thomas and Vera Williams, Fayetteville; sisters, Willie Mae Parrott, and Dorothy Moore, both of Newnan, Carrie Hazel Wright, Gainesville, and Martha Gill-Clark, Senoia; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. Joyce Pendleton Stovall


Joyce Pendleton Stovall, 65, Olsmar, Fla., died Feb. 11, 2003. He was born march 3, 1937 in Whitesburg, Ky. Graveside services were at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville, with the Rev. Glenn Stringham officiating. Survivors include a daughter, Kimberly S. and Jeff Kee, Fayetteville; and a cousin, Cindy Brooks, Forest Park. Carl J. Gladys Rita Hale Williams


Gladys Rita Hale Williams, 75, Fayetteville, died Feb. 11, 2003, while recovering from quadruple bypass heart surgery. She was born Feb. 18, 1927 in Lutzville, Pa. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Frank Williams, and siblings Alvin Hale, Laura Hale, Betty Seifert, Dorothy Imler, and Edna Lucito. Memorial services were at St. Timothy Lutheran Church, Forest Park. Survivors include children, Ted Williams, Hogansville, Debra Lundell, and Connie Roland, both of Stockbridge, Sherry Porter, North Carolina, Lisa Fine, Fayetteville, and Ron Williams, Cummings; and grandchildren, Chris Williams, Jody and Jon Lundell, James Porter, Stephanie, Adrianne and Jeremy Rowland, Rob, Kristina and Sean Fine, and Kaitlin and Kelsey Williams. Vinnie L. Jackson


Vinnie L. Jackson, 96, Fairburn, Fayette County, died Feb. 11, 2003. She was born April 30, 1908 in Gordon County, Ga. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Jackson. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Sidney Gresham and the Rev. Dr. Jim Willis officiating. Interment was at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, College Park. Survivors include Ailene Long, Fayetteville, Sarah Turner, Peachtree City, and Miriam Long, Fairburn. Horace Eugene Knowles


Horace Eugene Knowles, 85, Fayetteville, died Feb. 4, 2003. He was born May 29, 1917 in Webb, Ala. He was preceded in death by Delilah Smith. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Jim Willis officiating. Interment was at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville. Survivors include his wife, Esther Byrd Knowles, Fayetteville, sons Gene and Virginia Knowles, Stockbridge, and Charles and Marie Knowles, Mike and Beverly Knowles, and Hugh and Judi Knowles, all of Fayetteville; daughters, Theresa and Charles Hilderbrand Jr., Sharpsburg, and Sue and James Williamson, Peachtree City; 20 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Beverly Anne Wilson


Beverly Anne Wilson, 64, Fayetteville, died Feb. 6, 2003. She was born Nov. 28, 1938 in Bridgeport, Conn. She was a member of the Lisbon Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and was an assistant treasurer. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, East Point chapter. Services were at Lisbon Baptist Church with the Rev. Randall Harris and the Rev. Carlton Swicegood officiating. Interment was at the church cemetery. Survivors include her husband, Gene Wilson, Fayetteville; a daughter, Debbie and Alan Webb, Fayetteville; grandchildren, Travis and Chasity Webb, Senoia, and Ashley Webb, Fayetteville; a great-grandson, Cameron Webb; and a sister, Ruby Russell, College Park. Louise Allrid


Louise Allrid, 80, Fayetteville, died Feb. 9, 2003. She was born on Dec. 27, 1922 in Fulton County. She was a 40 year employee of Colonial Stores in the accounting department. Services were at the Liberty Baptist Church with Pastor Alan Parker officiating. Interment was at Sherwood Memorial Park, Jonesboro. Survivors include brothers, William T. and Carolyn Allrid, Morrow, and Robert L. and Patricia Allrid, Macon; a sister, Anne Reynolds, Fayetteville; and a sister-in-law, Agnes Allrid, Castleberry, Fla. Felton C. Johnson


Felton C. Johnson, Fayetteville, died on his 69th birthday, Feb. 11, 2003. He was born Feb. 11, 1934 in Fulton County. He was retired as a lieutenant in the Atlanta Fire Department, Station #10. He was preceded in death by sons, Rodney Johnson, and Darryl Johnson. Services were at the Harps Crossing Baptist Church with Minister Dennis Watson officiating. Interment was at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville. Survivors include his wife, Lounell Johnson, Fayetteville; children, Sheila Finney, Kenny Johnson, Jackie Johnson, Rick Chambers, Debbie Southern, and Lisa Walker; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, J. B. Johnson; and a sister, Melba McMillan. Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home, East Point, was in charge.

Charles William Hurst


Charles William Hurst, 63, Fayetteville, died Feb. 12, 2003. He was born Sept. 9, 1939 in Tifton, Tift County, Ga. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Jackson Hurst, DoeRun, Ga. Services were at the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Sam Matthews, the Rev. Merlin Day, and the Rev. John Lattimer officiating. Interment was at the Bethany Christian Church Cemetery, Carrollton, Ga. Survivors include his wife, Joy J. Hurst, Fayetteville; a son, Charles Lee "Chuck" and Jennifer Hurst, Tampa, Fla.; a daughter, Sara Lynn and Tim O'Dell, Upsilanti, Mich.; grandchildren, Jonathan Bryce Hurst and Katherine Ruth Hurst; mother, Pauline G. Thrasher, Atlanta; and a brother, Terre Hurst, Duluth. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge.
